Congratulations to the brave Caulfield children who were all awarded the star of bravery for wrestling a shotgun from their “father” who was trying to kill their mother.

You may remember the awesome Caulfield children from when we covered the story of their incredible bravery almost 3 years ago now.

Well those in power have just decided that these incredibly brave children have been awarded the star of bravery ! How great is that !

For those that don’t remember their story here it is from the Brisbane times 🙂

A gunman had taken one shot and was reloading to take another when a 12-year-old boy acted in a split second, wrenching the gun away, saving his mother, his four siblings and himself.

Faced with death, the children acted in a way their mother didn’t think was imaginable: one took the gun, one tackled the shooter, another hid his baby sister and her nine-year-old daughter administered life-saving first aid.

How incredible is that ! These kids are our heroes at FACAA !

A family of six, mother Rachael Moore and her five children, were in their Chambers Flat home, south of Brisbane, on the night of April 11, 2014, when they heard noises outside.

The five children moved to a bedroom and Miss Moore went to investigate the noise, and came face to face with her former husband, Daryl Fields, who was armed.

She ran and hid with her children behind a locked door, but he broke it down.

“I knew I was going to be shot, I could tell. So I just told them [children] to get away from me and moved as far away from them as I could and thankfully the big boys kept the little ones away,” Miss Moore said.

At the time her son Jayden was 14, Cameron, 12, Kaylea, 9, Zane, 4, and Samantha, 2.

“I remember when the bullet got shot it was slow motion, I remember powder in the air, I remember watching this bullet come towards me I was ready just thinking I’ve got to take it, I can’t move.

“And then halfway, I saw Jayden hanging off the bed and we just made eye contact and it was like a whole conversation was had there.”

When the bullet hit Miss Moore, her shoulder was shattered, she fell and began to lose blood.

This was when her five little heroes sprang into action !

As Mr Fields reloaded his gun Cameron elbowed him, grabbed the gun and ran, hiding the weapon outside.

As the assault continued Jayden and Cameron, who had returned to the bedroom, grabbed hold of Mr Field’s arms to prevent further assaults on their mother.

During this time four-year-old Zane escaped outside with Samantha, who he had earlier put under a bed to keep safe.

Kaylea used strength, which she now says she has no idea where it came from, and helped move her mother out the back door and began to administer first aid to her mother’s severe injuries.

“I thought I was going to die,” Miss Moore said.

Mr Fields pleaded guilty to several charges including attempted murder and breach of a domestic violence order. He was sentenced to 12 years jail in October last year.

Almost three years on and the family looks back – they have been homeless and living out of a car, suffering depression and post-traumatic stress disorder and Miss Moore continues to face the daily fear of having her injured arm amputated.

She has had 35 operations in less than three years.

“They think the blood supply in the bone might have died which means that either there are some big operations to either take from my leg to save that bone which would shorten my leg by an inch or [arm] amputation,” Miss Moore said.

“I refuse that, I have got this far, it’s been nearly three years, I’ve been fighting for a long time and it takes a lot out of you but I don’t want to give up on it – I need my arm.

“I know a lot of people say it’s just an arm, chop it off. But put yourself in those shoes with five children, I’m not giving up now. I refuse. I don’t give up, my family doesn’t give up.”

In recognition of the children’s actions to save their mother the Australian Bravery Awards, announced on Sunday, listed Jayden Caulfield and Cameron Caulfield as recipients of the Star of Courage Award.

Just six individuals will receive these awards in 2017 and the Caulfield brothers have been revealed as likely being the only siblings to ever receive this accolade and also likely the youngest.

Kaylea Caulfield and Zane Fields (Caulfield) will join 24 other Australians receiving a Bravery Medal.

Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove said it was only fitting that outstanding people willing to put themselves in harm’s way to assist others in need were recognised through the Australian Honours system.

“These awards have helped to define, encourage and reinforce our national aspirations and ideals by identifying role models,” he said.

“On behalf of all Australians, I thank them for their bravery. They are a source of courage, support and inspiration, and we are a stronger, safer and more caring nation because of them.”

On behalf of all of the 99 thousand plus members of the FACAA we applaud and thank them for their bravery, they are a source of inspiration and courage for us to fight when we think we can not fight anymore !

When we grow up we want to be as brave as the Caulfield kids !

“I am proud of them, I think more so how they are as a family,” Miss Moore said.

All children agreed receiving the letters about their respective awards was a shock, but an honour.

Jayden said he wanted to use his Star of Courage award to help other children who had experienced or are experiencing domestic violence.

“Domestic violence is such a big issue lately, especially the last couple of years, it’s getting out of hand – there’s not enough foundations or support, it’s not viewed by the higher-ups as a big issue,” he said.

“Me and my little brother Cameron we’re closer now and we’ve got each other’s backs … I’ve always followed Cameron, he’s like my younger brother role model.”

Cameron, like his siblings Jayden and Kaylea, is a keen actor and wants to use his award to further the messages he can send with his acting career.

“It’s pushed me a lot further, motivated me to go further with my acting and really put in the extra effort that it needs,” he said.

Kaylea said she looked forward to receiving the award as it made her mum happy.

“It will make Mum really proud and happy to have it in her house,” she said.

Miss Moore said she wanted her children to have the awards to look back on.

“I think later on it will be something they’ll be really proud of and later on show their children,” she said.

No children should ever see domestic violence, it is a form of child abuse that we at FACAA will fight to see wiped out !

These children saw someone trying to kill their mother, sadly it was her ex partner and this was a domestic violence incident. If these brave kids were not there to swing into action their mother would have died that horrible night.

These awesome kids literally saved her life ! they deserve these Stars of Bravery and we at FACAA would love to offer them a place in our Phoenix Survivor’s program if they would like one 🙂

“Even if you guys don’t think you’re great – Australia does,” she said…. and we at FACAA wholeheartedly agree !!!! (A)

North Shore Rapist Graham Kay has failed in his attempt to hide his crimes behind a suppression order.

THE man known as the North Shore Rapist — who hunted and sexually assaulted eight women and teenage girls — can be named after he lost an attempt in the Supreme Court to put a permanent suppression order on his identity

Graham Kay, 65, is a high risk sex offender who will continue to be electronically monitored for the next three years after Justice Ian Harrison today granted an application by the state to extend a Corrective Services supervision order.

Since being released form jail after serving 18 years, Kay had been living in obscurity working mostly as a labourer at a Sydney fruit market.

But his Supreme Court fight to be freed from wearing an electronic monitoring device brought him back into the spotlight.

Kay tried to stop the media naming him, saying he feared for his safety if his horrific past was revealed.

But Justice Harrison rejected that application, allowing the media to report his identity.

What did he honestly expect ? His fights to have his electronic monitoring bracelet removed in an attempt to hide his past would obviously make people question why.

Graham Kay is not even slightly a low risk offender. He is a very high risk offender and most experts say he is not a good candidate for rehabilitation.

So why was he let out in the first place ?

Well because once again the right of the rapist to have privacy and freedom have superseded the rights of children, (in his case teenage girls), to be safe.

However it went wrong for Kay because while he has had his monitoring bracelet somehow removed, we now know who he is.

If you live or know anyone who lives on the North Shore of Sydney, might we suggest you share this poster so none of your female friends fall victim to a rapist who they say is of high risk to re-offend.

Documents tendered to court revealed Kay was recently sacked from his job at Southern Cross Produce at Flemington Markets, in Sydney’s inner west, when his pixilated image was shown in the media and his female colleagues figured out, to their horror, that they were working alongside a convicted serial sex offender.

Kay wrote in the affidavit that a few days after his court appearance on February 27 he was approached by management.

“They said they were weighing up the situation because some female workers had become aware of the media article and had voiced some concerns about me continuing to work there.”

And that is why we share pictures of these monsters far and wide ! To alert those who may be working with them, or living near them, what the dangers are !

He stated on March 8 he was sacked as a warehouse manager where he was in charge of a supervisor and 11 staff members.

“I was devastated,” he wrote.

He stated although his managers knew he was “on parole” and that he saw a forensic psychologist once a week, they did not know the nature of his offences.

Ohh poor baby FACAA feels so badly for you, imagine how devastated your victims were when you raped them…. !

Kay was released on parole after 18 years of a 20-year sentence for the series of rapes, which occurred between 1995 and 1996.

He would cruise the streets looking for victims and would follow his targets from train stations or ambush them outside their homes, holding a knife to their throats while he sexually assaulted them.

Kay weirdly tried to blame the “phases of the moon” his diet and the “inviting demeanour and dress of his victims” for his brutal attacks.

No seriously, he blamed the phases of the moon for his attacks, his diet and the “inviting” demeanour and dress of his victims” …. who does this guy think he is a diabetic werewolf with no impulse control ?

What an absolute flop ! We’ve heard some shocking excuses before but that one takes it !

During the hearing last month, forensic psychiatrist Dr Anthony Samuels gave evidence that he met the criteria of “sexual sadism” and was “vulnerable to relapse”.

His barrister Angela Cook said he wanted the supervision order lifted in part because wearing an electronic tracking device around his ankle at the beach made him uncomfortable.

Angela Cook, we hope you sleep well at night knowing you aided a multiple time rapist, who experts say WILL re-offend, to slip his ankle bracelet monitoring. We also hope you are charged as an accessory when he does re-offend.

… Ohh poor baby, you lose your job and it makes you feel bad, you wear your ankle bracelet and it is uncomfortable for you ….

Should have thought about that before you raped your victims you pathetic coward !
